During my official travel to Occidental Mindoro, when me and my officemates in NFA-Mamburao, Occ. Mindoro visited the Laymen Ministries foundation headed by Mr. Jim Webb with his wife Moni from U.S.A. We had our lunch (vegetarian meal) to their headquarters with their teachers and some students. The foundation's mission is to teach or educate the minority people or they preferred to call as "katutubo" in Mindoro. So. the foundation build schools to 5 villages and sent teachers there. They educate them for free and aside from that, they helped the katutubo to live a normal life. They have 16 teachers now from different countries/places and they have almost 200 students both in elementary and highschool. The financial support and some materials came from different people from different places. I really admire these people especially Mr. Webb, who have the passion, love and understanding for these people. I saw his heart. . . his willingness to help. He love the katutubo even he is not a Filipino. We should be the one to do it, we should be the one to help our kababayan but its not what happenning in reality, we're the one who discriminate them from the society. They are not treated fairly in all aspects.
I saw the life of katutubo, they lived in a village with no electricity at all, some childrens don't wear clothes. They do always eat root crops instead of rice and sometimes they are just contented with "lugaw". I realized how lucky I am to have my life now, and i should be very happy with what I have.
I hope someday, I could be an instrument to help these people even in a small way. I have promised to Mr. Webb that I will come back and do something to be part of these people's life even for a short period. Let us be an instrument to help other people to have a better life. . . . God bless us all!
